First we watched the Barbie Thumbelina movie
The lessons in the movie aren't overbearing and the story stands up to being told over and over again, which is a great thing, because I have a feeling we're not done watching it yet!
Once C was good and
Our Thumbelina Doll
Barbie Thumbelina Pros:
- The movie is sweet and teaches a great ecofriendly lesson just in time for Earth Day. Your child will walk away with a greater respect for flowers and the secrets they might contain.
- The doll is nicely constructed and opens the door to a whole new world of play.
Barbie Thumbelina Cons:
- The mechanism on the toy is a bit hard to work for little hands and I think that it will soon be forgotten in favor of more imaginative play in our house. C would rather let Thumbelina fly through the sky than pop out of her flower, but maybe that's just us!
All in all, I'm giving the Barbie Thumbelina line

ReplyDeleteThank you again for the giveaway. I'm having my children plant flowers.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I played Barbies for HOURS until I hit "The awful age." You know, I cut all their hair and drew on tattoos....I was horrible!

Barbies were a great ice breaker when I was growing up. If someone had a small suitcase full (which I did) you were very popular and got invited for sleep overs--as long as you brought the barbie case.

For Earth Day we are going to a large celebration (we live in a West Coast metro city), with music, hand-on activities for the kids, food and speakers.

ReplyDeleteOne Christmas all the girls in the neighborhood got Barbies. We had so much fun playing with our dolls together.

ReplyDeleteMy big sister was born the year of the original Barbie and has an original Barbie. We grew up playing Barbies and I always begged her to play more. She grew tired of playing Barbies, but still loves her Barbies.

My daughter was so excited when she got her Barbie van - she played with it more than she ever thought of playing with her Barbies.
ReplyDeleteWe are planning to plant either a tree or bush.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little my sister and I loved our Barbies. We would spend houses turning the bookcase in our room into this elaborate Barbie house. We also used to like to make them take trips in the Barbie camper. They would visit the zoo which was our bird and little dog :)
ReplyDeleteWe plant a large garden. The kids learn how long it takes things to grow and how to take care of things. It's a great way for them to learn about nature.

ReplyDeleteI always loved my Barbies'. I named them differently because its hard to play when everyone has the same name, lol. I loved dressing them up for different occasions.
ReplyDeleteMy dad built me a huge dollhouse to play with my barbies. I'm sure I played with them until I was in 5th or 6th grade. They were so much fun.
ReplyDeleteOMG me and my neighbor used to play with our barbies for hours. We both had barbie houses and barbie suitcases full of barbies and clothes and we could disappear outside for hours playing.

I was nuts about Barbie and sought to try to get the same type of enthusiasm out of my child for the doll. No chance! So I now have a great collection for my very own.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI loved my barbies and played with them often. Then as I got older I thought it was a good idea to redesign them 'so to speak'.
For earth day we may go to a local park swamp and have a picnic...or we may go see the new movie coming out 'Earth'.
ReplyDeleteBegging sis 5 yrs older to play Barbies with me and thinking when I was 12 if I would ever not want to play with Barbies!

I have to admit that we are huge Barbie movie fans. My girls are 4 and 6 1/2 and I've been pleasantly surprised thus far by the message behind the movies (and the emphasis on classical music.)
ReplyDeleteWe're also big fans of watching Nature on PBS.
We'll probably celebrate Earth Day by planting some flowers in pots out on our patio!
My nephews are planting trees in the backyard.

My girl's are going to have so many great memories of playing Barbie's together! We have a ton of them, and everytime we go shopping, what do we HAVE to look at..more Barbie's LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a Great Giveaway :)
On Earth Day our neighborhood is having a Mulch Party :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I are currently making memories with barbie. She loves dressing and undressing them (LOL). Anyway, what we do for the Earth is everyday. My family gardens to grow our own food, raises chickens, composts, cans, dehydrates, makes our food from scratch, saves elect, etc). (:
ReplyDeletethe barbie corvette ...fond memories
ReplyDeleteI have seriously mixed memories of Barbie -
ReplyDeleteLoved playing wuth her as a kid..
couldn't figure out why I did not look like her
I loved playing with Barbie. I think I owned 20 of them as a kid!
ReplyDeleteWe'll plan a dinnertime picnic on earth day. (If the weather cooperates.)
ReplyDeleteBarbie has changed so much over the years:) My daughter just turned 3 in December and she wanted the Barbie cake where you put Barbie in the cake and decorate like a ball gown...anyway, we didn't have any Barbies, so I had my mother bring one of my old ones over. The cake was a huge success and she even got a Barbie and clothes for her birthday. I had kept the doll from the cake and was going to put an outfit on her, but it didn't fit. Believe it or not...her chest and waist were too BIG for the new clothes!! Guess Barbie had a little work done, since I was a girl:)
ReplyDeleteMy whole family plans on planting flowers.

I teach my children about the importance by nature by planting a garden together (my son is really excited about growing things), by going on hikes, by recycling to protect the natural environment and by picking up trash to keep nature clean and beautiful!

I had lots of barbies and still do! Brea has not had any barbies yet, but I definitely plan to incorporate this in her playtime. Thanks so much for a great giveaway
